Don't just watch it -
ride it!

2019 expressions of interest NOW being taken

Yes, we cycle the entire 2019 Tour de France route, starting in Brussels, the Belgian capital before heading south to the Pyrenees across to the Alps and the last day in Paris.

The aim of TDF 2019 – Team New Zealand – is to give you the nearest experience you can realistically get to being part of a pro-team. Tailor made training and nutritional plan, Team bus, service vehicles, dedicated mechanic, massage and team support.

Riding a day ahead of the tour gives you the experience of cycling through the towns and villages decked out with le tour paraphanalia and lined with fans eagerly anticipating the arrival of the race.

You will be treated like a pro throughout the trip, with all day to day logistics taken care of, leaving you to focus on completing this ride of a lifetime.

All successful applicants will become an integral part of a close knit cycle team of like minded riders who will join you on the non competitive ride of your life.
If you have always wanted to see if you are capable of riding such a Grand Tour, here is your chance.

We are limiting applications for the full tour to just 12 riders to ensure we can deliver the highest possible levels of support for each participant.

To express interest in being part of the TDF 2019 Team NZ please complete the form below and one of our team will be in touch to go through the next step personally with you. We will be accepting applications on a first in first served basis commencing mid August 2018.

Pre Tour Awareness Day

We request that all applicants on the Tour De France 2019 Team New Zealand meet Jonathan, the Tour Director at a mutually convenient time in September/ October or until such time that the tour is fully booked.

During the very informal couple of hours / half a day you will learn more about the trip, meet Jonathan, ask questions and go on a  gentle 50 - 70km ride in the nearby Waitakere ranges.

An undertaking of this nature requires that riders meet a certain level of fitness and mental well being. The day allows us the opportunity to meet each other and ask any questions about the tour.

We  look forward to meeting you soon. Please use the form below to register your interest and one of the team will be in touch to arrange a mutually convenient date.

Cost & Details - Pre tour awareness day

We do not charge for the initial meet up.

What to bring

  • You will need to bring your usual road bike
  • Your usual riding kit for a 2 -3 hour road ride, spare tube etc.
  • Positive attitude and lots of questions !

What is an FTP test ?

For those interested we can arrange for you to undertake an FTP test. It does provide a good indication of your current fitness levels, but it is not what we rely on to see if you have what it takes to take on this challenge.

There are two ways to do an FTP Test. One way is to do a one-hour test flat out; the other is to do a 20-minute test and then deduct 5 percent from the average watts. Your functional threshold power = 20-minute critical power test x .95.

The objective of both tests is to develop a benchmark so you can progressively increase your functional threshold power over time – peaking for goal events throughout the year. FTP not only serves as a benchmark for training zones, but it also serves as a cruise-control target to help you avoid over or under training.
