2019 TOUR AOTEAROA

UPDATE: At this stage we are not taking any bookings for the 2019 tour. Please visit the TA website that will give you all the info to give it a go independently. http://www.touraotearoa.nz/p/home.html

We are looking for up to 20 cyclists per tour to undertake a tough, but achievable ride of a lifetime from one end of the country to the other.  If you have always had the ambition to complete this epic ride, but for whatever reason, you have not got round to it,  well here is your opportunity to commit and make it happen.

We follow the tried and tested route of the legendary Kennett brothers, Tour Aotearoa  http://www.touraotearoa.nz/p/home.html wherever possible.  It takes in many of New Zealand's recently built cycle trails which are linked by minor roads to avoid the busy state highways. Changes and improvements continue to happen and we will assess the best options for particular sections nearer the Tour date.

We are proud to partner up with the Kennett Brothers to provide an alternative option for those that do not want to go for the  "Brevet" self supported bike packing option.

There are some long days and challenging sections that are likely to test your endurance to the limit.

You will also help raise awareness and funds for a NZ Registered Charity of your choice and a $100 of your tour costs will be donated to a section of the NZ Cycle Trail Trust that needs the most assistance.

There are some long days and challenging sections that are likely to test your endurance to the limit.

We take your bags for you, arrange and pre book accommodation and sort out all the day to day logistics for you.

This leaves you able to get on and enjoy the riding with like minded cyclists, ride at your own pace and enjoy some of the best trails in NZ.

Our support crew will supply a free substantial breakfast each morning of the tour and on most nights (they do deserve the odd night off, if we are close to a major town) will prepare a healthy evening meal for a small cost of $10 - $15 pp.

Our aim is to get you to enjoy this already iconic route of NZ with like minded cyclists, free of some of the hassles associated that extended bike trips can bring, such as carrying all your clothing/ tent / cooking stuff etc and sorting out accommodation.  In return you are supporting many small businesses in rural New Zealand and generates economic, social and environmental benefits for many small communities that you pass through.

You will also have the peace of mind that having a support crew brings, knowing that help is not too far away if serious medical or mechanical support is needed.

Next Steps in Booking your place:

To secure your place we require the following information:

Contact the tour director – Jonathan Douglas by phone on 021 388893 or email at info@rouleurbiketours.com, outlining your previous endurance-based exploits that shows that:

You have what it takes to ride for at least 6 – 10 hours per day for up to 25 days.  For those wanting to join the Rapide 15 day tour you will need to demonstrate that you have both the physical and mental capability to ride 10 – 14 hour days and ride at a reasonably fast tempo !

$250 deposit to secure your place. If we do not get the required numbers by 31st December 2018 (looking highly unlikely) we will fully refund this deposit / and will look at possible alternatives.

You will commit to raising a minimum of $1,000 for a NZ registered charity of your choice.

We are also accepting enquiries from riders who can't take time away from work / family for the full 25 days, but still want to ride one or more sections of the tour with the team. This could include riding all stages in the North or South Islands for example.

Please use the form below to register your interest and we will be in touch to discuss further.

Still not sure if it's for you ?  Come out for a gentle ride and a chat with Jonathan. See below for more details.

 Pre tour meet and greet

Still not sure if it's for you ?  Come out for a gentle ride and a chat with Jonathan.

We meet at V BIKE located at 23 Westhaven Drive, Auckland at 10am. Jonathan will meet you and go through the tour with you over a coffee.

We then have the opportunity to head out for a gentle ride if you want to, typically to the Waitakere ranges, allowing us time to get to know each other better and enjoy some time on the bike.

We aim to get back to V bike by 3pm, though can usually be flexible to suit if required.

Dates to suit can usually be arranged, usually Fridays and Saturdays are best in September / October or until Tour is booked up.

We do not charge for the "Meet and Greet".

What to bring

You will need to bring your usual gravel / mountain bike bike and:

  • Money for lunch at a suitable café during our ride
  • Usual riding kit for a 2 -3 hour road ride, spare tube etc.
  • Positive attitude and lots of questions !
